My parents began the study of Christian Science shortly after their marriage, and I received early training in this Science which has stood me in good stead ever since.
During eighteen years of active flying service with the Air Force, including the years of the Second World War, I was not involved in an accident, nor did I suffer any injury in combat. My wife and children were living adjacent to Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, but they were not harmed. During nearly two years of service in India, sometimes living and traveling in out-of-the-way places, I remained immune, without either vaccination or inoculations, to the many diseases said to be prevalent there.
Early in my military career I indulged moderately in social drinking, but I soon realized that to progress in Christian Science I must be free from such an enslaving habit. The desire to drink left me shortly thereafter, and I have been free from the habit ever since.
