When my husband and I were married after World War I, we decided to look for a religion better suited to our needs than the one we had at that time. After a long search we were led to accept and read the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. The chapter on Prayer came as an answer to our deepest wishes, and we knew that we had found what we had been seeking. For eight years we constantly studied this book and tried to understand it and to use our knowledge to solve problems as they arose. We found that the solution was always available, though sometimes we had to search long and carefully to find it. Then we joined The Mother Church and a branch church.
We learned to understand that God's creation is governed by Love, divine Principle, and that therefore accidents cannot occur in it. About two years ago, while driving home from the city, I suddenly found my car in a bad skid. When the car went completely out of control, I stopped trying to turn the steering wheel and waited with a grateful sense of confidence for divine guidance.
Just as the car was heading for a ditch, it was as though I received a direction to turn; this I did. The car careened across the roadway to ice and snow on the other side. Again I felt impelled to turn, and I did. This happened several times until the skid was over. It was a wonderful example of the divine, guiding intelligence, which is available if we will listen. My gratitude was very great.
