RELY UPON THE CHRIST

From the July 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

HOW sorely mankind needs divine help! Sooner or later each one must recognize that divine power alone can save him from sickness, sin, lack, and the other discords of mortal existence.

To most people, evil appears to be very active, and one faced with the suggestion of evil may not know what to do about it. Through the study of Christian Science he can learn of God, the real Mind, infinite good, Spirit. Through the realization of the omnipotence and omnipresence of divine Mind, he can dispel the aggressive suggestions of evil as unreal. Then he will gain the assurance that since God, the Mind which is Truth and Love, is the only Life and the source of all activity, all that is really going on is that the divine Mind is imparting the true idea of everything. This activity is the Christ, the manifestation of God.

Since discords are the result of some phase of ignorance of true being, the Christ, the true idea of God, is the remedy for every human ill. How wonderful it is to contemplate the fact that this remedy is right at hand! We need only open the door of our consciousness and the omnipotent Christ will come in. The Apostle John heard the Christ saying (Rev. 3:20), "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." Sometimes when first the angel thought that brings a healing comes to us, it may seem small, that is, it may not seem powerful; but as we let it into our consciousness, it grows and unfolds to us, and its power dispels the activity of mortal mind manifested as sickness, sin, or lack. On other occasions the angel thought may come suddenly into our consciousness as a great light, instantly dispelling the darkness of mortal mind.
