It is a joy to bear witness to the healing efficacy of Christian Science. Jesus said (John 8:31, 32), "If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed; and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." The truth that makes free is the truth that man, the image and likeness of God, Spirit, is always free, and this was proved in the experience of two of our children in quick healings of scarlet fever and pneumonia.
A healing that took a longer time, but from which much was learned, was the healing of periodic deafness, which had plagued me for several years. Intermittently I had the help of a Christian Science practitioner. When the trouble developed again over three years ago, I knew I had consecrated work to do to overcome it once and for all. I knew that I must perceive that discord of any kind in the real man is an impossibility and that I must understand why man, the likeness of God, Soul, is always in complete possession of all of his faculties.
I spent several weeks in prayer and study. Then one evening when I was alone, I reached out to God, divine Love, asking Him to reveal to me the truth concerning man's perception. A verse from Proverbs came to my thought (20:12), "The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the Lord hath made even both of them." Yes, I reasoned, God, being Spirit, has created all spiritually. Hearing has been a creation of God, Spirit, from the beginning and has never been interrupted.
