Living in Basutoland I have few opportunities for attending a Christian Science church and very few contacts with Christian Scientists. I was therefore delighted to receive from Johannesburg an invitation to hear a tape recording of a Tuesday Evening Meeting which had been held in the Extension of The Mother Church at Annual Meeting time and also to see the film entitled "The Mother Church in Action." However, to attend would involve a lengthy and expensive train journey and being absent from home for about two weeks. As I had insufficient means of my own with which to meet the expense, I asked God for guidance and trusted that the necessary supply or transport would be provided when needed.
The day before I was due to leave I still had no way of getting to Johannesburg. I felt despondent because there was no one to turn to for advice. Then I remembered that God is ever present. I recalled Mrs. Eddy's words from Science and Health (p. 326), "Working and praying with true motives, your Father will open the way," and I examined my motives. These were unselfish—a desire to increase my understanding of Christian Science so that I could better serve God and my fellow men, and a desire to visit my mother, who lived in the same city and appeared to need me.
I made the necessary preparations for the journey, and within an hour a friend of my husband's who was in our village on business offered me a free seat in an airplane. At the aerodrome next morning I was offered transportation back from Johannesburg by car the following Sunday.
