There may come a time in the life of a student of Christian Science when he feels the need for giving special heed to the injunction (Isa. 54:2,3), "Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; for thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left."
This moment of decision may come as a result of a gradual awakening to the spiritual demands made on each of us. Or it may come as the result of a particularly afflictive experience. The student of Christian Science is bound to see one day that, slow or otherwise, this process of awakening is necessary to the full manifestation of his potentialities. It should be viewed with joy as the springboard to a present fuller realization of eternal Life. Indeed, it is a process fraught with promises to himself, a blessing to the whole human family. In fact, such a process often marks a turning point in one's experience as a Christian Scientist, particularly with regard to his attitude toward people and circumstances.
We read in Science and Health by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy (p. 430), "Faith should enlarge its borders and strengthen its base by resting upon Spirit instead of matter." The necessity of giving practical import to this statement is further made clear in Paul's declaration concerning God (II Cor. 6:2), "He saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation."
