It is becoming increasingly clear to spiritually enlightened thought that there is but one government, that of divine Principle, and that this Principle actuates and protects all right human endeavors to express it. There is no outsideness to Principle, no escape from Principle's undeviating law and encompassing tenderness. Principle is causative and is All.
On page 465 of Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy asks the question, "Is there more than one God or Principle?" and begins her answer: "There is not. Principle and its idea is one, and this one is God, omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent Being, and His reflection is man and the universe."
Christian Science uses seven synonyms for God which serve to express the entire deific nature. As a young student of Christian Science the writer enjoyed the progressive unfoldment in consciousness of the synonyms, Love, Mind, Truth, Soul, Spirit, Life. Principle, however, was a challenge to her. It seemed to be exacting and cold. Then she saw with clarity that Principle must include the purity and understanding of Love, the wisdom and unity of Mind, the precision and integrity of Truth, the diversity and luminosity of Soul, the essence and actuality of Spirit, and the vitality and constancy of Life. From this line of reasoning, she saw that Principle is all-inclusive, and a realization of this fact made the Christ, the true idea of God, more readily available to her.
