In a sermon delivered seventy-five years ago, Mrs. Eddy declared (Christian Healing, p. 11), "We are in the midst of a revolution; physics are yielding slowly to metaphysics; mortal mind rebels at its own boundaries; weary of matter, it would catch the meaning of Spirit."
The cataclysmic events that identify our times as the atomic age did not begin with the splitting of the atom; nor are they primarily an upheaval in physical science. The unprecedented revolution which today confronts mankind is the scientifically spiritual revolution which was launched by Mrs. Eddy's discovery of Christian Science. The startling denial of matter's reality has gained momentum until today many physicists freely admit that matter is no longer the solid substance that it was formerly thought to be but is a form of energy.
The great spiritual truths revealed in Christian Science have Principle, God, as their origin. They reveal Principle's law as the eternal law of Love and the activity of the ever-present Christ as a healing and saving activity. Through the ages evil's claim to presence and power has resisted the benign appearing of Truth. The only reason this appearing sometimes seems to be accompanied by such destructive elements as disasters, pestilence, strife, and nuclear bombs is that humankind has not yet accepted Spirit as substance, Mind as the only intelligence, and Love as Principle.
