Business means much to our modern age. It is indispensable in our present stage of human development. This is why it is important to understand the moral and spiritual values that preserve the integrity of business as well as to understand the nature of that which would undermine the true function of business and cause it to fail to measure up to its opportunities and responsibilities.
Business is an important field for the application of the laws of God, as revealed in Christian Science. This Science holds the unique potential for bringing all phases of human experience under the beneficial control of divine Principle, Love. Business cannot help but succeed in its endeavors when it is based upon the Golden Rule, "Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them" (Matt. 7:12). One may find a pattern for right business action in the words of Mrs. Eddy on page 518 of Science and Health, "The rich in spirit help the poor in one grand brotherhood, all having the same Principle, or Father; and blessed is that man who seeth his brother's need and supplieth it, seeking his own in another's good."
Christian Science shows the businessman that business can be brought under the control of divine Love, thus illustrating the right action that meets human needs by spiritual means. This right action is applicable directly to any set of circumstances and comprehensible by the general state of societal thought. By steadfastly beholding business through the lens of Christian Science, Christian Scientists working in the business world help to preserve the integrity of business and hasten the evolution of a freer, more vital society.
