Students of Christian Science find through their study of the Bible and Science and Health by our Leader, Mrs. Eddy, that this Science, when correctly applied, delivers them from every ill or problem "that flesh is heir to." Let us, therefore, look to its teachings for the solutions of our problems and to the Christian Science movement not only for ways that will enrich our understanding, but for opportunities that will help us to serve and bless our fellowmen.
As a whole, Christian Scientists are probably the most grateful people on earth. Let us know that this gratitude not only seeks rightful expression, but includes it. We must be alert to see that we are not content simply to give here, there, and somewhere else and so feel humanly satisfied that we have given. True gratitude always brings with it the deep desire to improve our giving. Thus we desire not simply to give, and so quiet conscience, but so to spiritualize our thinking that our giving is ever more healing, more loving, more uplifting.
Christian Scientists give also to worthy organizations outside their own church. Mrs. Eddy gave generously to other organizations to help her fellowmen. But the heart and soul of her giving—her work, her prayers, and her love—were first of all for the Christian Science movement. And so it must be with us. Our gratitude to God for His goodness makes us want to give to all mankind in every way we can, but we must see that the greatest blessing we can bring to others is the Science of Christianity, the pearl of great price.
