CHURCH ORGANIZATION AND LIBERTY

[Original in Swedish]

From the June 1965 issue of The Christian Science Journal

ONE is sometimes conscious of the thought within certain groups of people that one's relationship to God and religion should be entirely private and that church, with its organization, removes the immediate contact with God and one's deep inner experiences.

Those who have participated in the unique teachings of Christ Jesus in a new light through Christian Science and who have experienced health, peace, and harmony as a direct result, look upon church and its organization in a different way. To them organization becomes no longer bondage but a way to greater liberty.

Jesus said, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do" (John 14:12). Jesus' works are well known. Heavy chains of sickness, sin, and death fell to the ground before the simple truth he taught, and he set the sufferers free. None of the discords of mortal life frightened Jesus. "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free," he said simply (John 8:32).
