HOW ALERT ARE WE?

From the June 1965 issue of The Christian Science Journal

AGGRESSIVE mental suggestion stems from the belief that there is a mind apart from God. This so-called mortal mind is a state of fear, human will, danger, ignorance, destruction, and malice and ends in extinction. In reality there can be no mind but the Mind that is God; so one must conclude that all things that seem to stem from a supposed intelligence or power outside of God must be an illusion—unreal and powerless. For this reason one does not fear aggressive mental suggestion, or malpractice; but he does take cognizance of the fact that it claims power, and he must therefore defend himself against its claim.

Ordinary human thought is not enough to meet this suggestion, but the infinite wisdom of Mind is sufficient to meet every erroneous condition that may arise in human belief. We cannot accept the view that evil is real and powerful. We must take our stand for the omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience of Mind, God.

Without doubt every earnest Christian Scientist is endeavoring to obey the By-Law in the Church Manual by Mrs. Eddy which reads (Art. VIII, Sect. 6): "It shall be the duty of every member of this Church to defend himself daily against aggressive mental suggestion, and not be made to forget nor to neglect his duty to God, to his Leader, and to mankind. By his works he shall be judged,—and justified or condemned."
