Although I attended a Christian Science Sunday School...

From the December 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Although I attended a Christian Science Sunday School for a few years as a youngster, it was not until an urgent need arose in my late teens that I turned to the wholehearted study of Science. The problem was solved, though it took some time, much prayer, and much humility; and I have been a devoted student of this Science ever since.

About eighteen months ago my father, who is not a practicing student of Christian Science, though he has always recognized its healing power and believes in its teachings, was badly beaten in an attempted robbery. He sought aid at several homes in the vicinity of the attack, but no one would let him in or help him. He managed to walk home, but when he entered, his appearance was quite frightening. He was covered with blood; his face was badly bruised and had several deep cuts.

Our family was very much alarmed; but I am grateful to say that I was not afraid for him, and I held continually to the angel thought that man's true identity can never be touched by evil in any way. I saw the necessity of impersonating the error; however, the most difficult test came in overcoming a sense of resentment toward the people who did not aid him. This I was finally able to do through the forgiving thoughts of both my father and my younger sister, who were able to see that it was fear governing those individuals.
