NO doctrine of Christian Science is more important than that which proclaims God as the only Mind. Idolatry was not abandoned with the monotheism adopted by the patriarchs of Scriptural history, for the belief persisted, and still persists, that there are many minds—little minds with limited capacities, each responsible for its owner's experience.
Mary Baker Eddy says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 470): "The supposed existence of more than one mind was the basic error of idolatry. This error assumed the loss of spiritual power, the loss of the spiritual presence of Life as infinite Truth without an unlikeness, and the loss of Love as ever present and universal."
It is not difficult to see that in the human sense of life every experience one has takes place in his mind. It may be more difficult to realize that one's mind makes one's experiences, but Christian Science proves that each individual is responsible for his experiences; and it reverses the troubles of human beings by achieving a profound change in their basis of thought.
