WHAT ARE WE LISTENING TO?

From the February 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

TODAY television and radio are an accepted part of daily life. Snapping on one or the other at the start of the day has become routine for many. There are numerous homes where either one of these is continually tuned in during waking hours and often far into the night. Do we stop and ask ourselves what we are listening to?

Christian Scientists are alert to world conditions and wish to be well-informed. Radio and television have made this increasingly possible. Much that is fine in the world of art, music, natural science, and so forth, is brought to the public through this great advancement in human communication. However, whether they are news reports or so-called dramas, at one point or another, they are apt to bring messages of disaster, sickness, immorality, or other forms of evil. The subtle way in which these seemingly innocent forms of entertainment and education are used for the purposes of evil deceives many.

In her book Miscellany, Mrs. Eddy writes (p.152): "To-day, if ye would hear His voice, listen to His Word and serve no other gods. Then the divine Principle of good, that we call God, will be found an ever-present help in all things, and Christian Science will be understood."
