PRACTICING SPIRITUAL LAW

From the February 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

THE practice of Christian Science is the application of the spiritual laws that were revealed to Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and set forth in the textbook, Science and Health. These spiritual laws were not made by mankind, but are divine decrees, edicts of divine Mind. They express the will of God and therefore are enforced by God's infinite power.

A Christian Science practitioner needs to be independent and fearless. He must have a knowledge of spiritual laws which enables him to defend his patients from infringements on the freedom and rights which are theirs under the divine law. He becomes equipped for his high calling by genuine consecration and by diligent, constant study of the Bible and Mrs. Eddy's writings. He must live consistently in accord with the laws he practices in order to be able to use these laws to defend himself and his patients.

One of the fundamental rules is that Christian Science practice must be based on the fact that the real, spiritual man is perfect. In Miscellany, Mrs. Eddy writes (p.242): "Christian Science is absolute; it is neither behind the point of perfection nor advancing towards it; it is at this point and must be practised therefrom. Unless you fully perceive that you are the child of God, hence perfect, you have no Principle to demonstrate and no rule for its demonstration."
