UNDIVIDED MIND

From the February 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

MUCH is heard these days about a type of mental illness which is known as "split personality." It is believed that an individual so afflicted expresses more than one identity or nature. Even in jest it is said that every man has an alter ego, or, literally, a second I.

Every day, however, in the healing practice of Christian Science, more of man's integrity—the single, perfect nature of man in God's likeness—is being brought to light in human lives. Such healing results in soundness of mind and body, in moral and spiritual regeneration, and in harmonious social adjustments.

The remedy for the above-mentioned type of mental disorder and other inharmonious states of being is found in the understanding of God, the one perfect, infinite Mind, and of man, His perfect, spiritual idea. Through intelligent enlightenment the unfailing power of Mind is prayerfully brought to bear upon the erroneous concepts of mortal thought. False beliefs about Mind are thereby exposed as ignorant misconceptions. The healing Christ, the true idea of Mind, so purges the human mentality that soundness of mind is found to be its normal state of being.
