AN OPEN DOOR

From the February 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"ENLARGE the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; for thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left" (Isa. 54:2, 3). These inspiring words of the prophet Isaiah are a call to thought and action, and we may well apply them to our Reading Room work.

The purpose of a Christian Science Reading Room is to bless. It is a beacon of Truth dispelling the darkness of materiality. The light of Truth cannot be hidden; it sends forth its rays into the dark places of the carnal mind, uncovering and healing the errors which would impede the progress of the individual, his community, and the world.

In "No and Yes," Mrs. Eddy writes, "Truth cannot be stereotyped; it unfoldeth forever" (p.45). Let us never forget this. Should the call come to relocate a branch church Reading Room, perhaps to take it from the quiet sanctuary of a church edifice or from an upper floor of an office building and put it on the street level where it may arrest the attention of the passerby, alertness on the part of the executive board, the Reading Room committee, and the church members is required.
