It is now over twenty years since I first experienced the healing, protecting, and regenerating power of the Christ, Truth, as revealed and taught by Christian Science. I had been receiving treatment from a number of doctors for a period of ten to twelve years. At that time arrangements had been made for me to enter a hospital for a major operation. I was not receiving any medical treatment in the meantime, and I was depressed and despondent and really felt the search for health was hopeless.
At this stage my wife, who had begun the study of Christian Science twelve months previously and had experienced some remarkable results from its application to her problems, assured me that I could be healed through Christian Science and would not need any operation. Although I was very skeptical, I thought: "Why not try it? After all, it can't do you any harm even if it does you no good."
And so an appointment was made for me with an experienced and a dedicated practitioner, who told me many wonderful things of God and His creation. However, one morning after two visits to the practitioner and no apparent improvement, my wife said: "Are you sure you are having treatment? You should be healed by now." But I went off to my business more despondent and hopeless than ever. During the morning my wife telephoned me and said, "I have just spoken with the practitioner, and she told me that you have not had treatment since you did not ask for it; but I have assured her that you do want treatment, and she is going to give you one straightaway."
