COMPARISON OF TWO KINGS

From the April 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Tutankhamen,
nineteen,
Pharaoh for three thousand years
over darkness,
over his untouched tomb
uncovered by chance by Carter,
archaeologist,
exposing unsung an era
in faience obsidian onyx gold,
inanimates
animating culture and karma,
the lotiform wishing cup
chanting still through alabaster:
"Live, O King! Live, live, thy Ka."
But no wind yet has stirred
to dance these bones.

Christ Jesus,
thirty-three,
commander for uncome ages
over morning,
over Life's deep joy-struck day,
appointed by God his Father
proving omnipotence
Mind for matter
Truth for error and Love for hate
by resurrection
from his own tomb raised tombless
inspiration's communion cup
lifted at last toward all lips
that all may drink all of it
learning by demonstration
to heal, teach, watch, pray.
