The Road to Success

From the April 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The word "success" occurs but once in the King James Version of the Bible. More noteworthy is the fact that the verse in which this word is used also sets forth the demonstrable way to true success.

Somewhere about thirty-two centuries ago this divine directive was revealed to Joshua, the Hebrew leader who carried on the great work begun by Moses. But its message is equally inspiring and applicable today: "This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success." Josh. 1:8;

While success is still the goal desired by almost everyone, the way to attain it is not yet clearly understood by mankind in general. The broad road leading to personalized success is attractive in ways not conducive to real progress, but the straight and narrow road always leads to a reward impossible to achieve otherwise. How much depends primarily on the intelligent and wise choosing of the road, for on this choice rests the kind of success which will be experienced!
