The Annual Meeting of The Mother Church Will Convene at 2 p.m., Monday, June 6
Arrangements have been made for this year's Annual Meeting which are designed to provide for more convenient distribution of tickets and assure visitors that they will hear and see the proceedings under significantly improved conditions.
Distribution of tickets will be made both on Saturday, June 4, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. and on Monday, June 6, from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. This additional period will help members in making their travel plans and will reassure them that their needs will be amply cared for without pressure or undue delay. Arrangements are being made to assure a maximum distribution of seats in The Mother Church Extension. It is anticipated that most visitors will have a seat in the Extension for one of the four major meetings.
In addition to the acquisition of other conveniently located overflow locations, large-screen closed-circuit television will be employed, making it possible for all those attending this year's Annual Meeting to enjoy the meetings fully with an excellent view of the entire proceedings.
New International Department
Establishment of a newly created International Department, with James Watt, C. S., of Washington, District of Columbia, as Manager, has been announced by The Christian Science Board of Directors.
The purpose of the new department, located in Boston, is to coordinate the overseas activities of The Mother Church, and particularly those in countries where English is not spoken. It will aim to strengthen communication between The Mother Church headquarters and overseas fields, and to serve as a central source of information, counsel, and training for this vital sphere of Church activity.
Mr. Watt has resigned from The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, to which he was appointed in 1955, in order to undertake his new responsibilities. He is well equipped to assume this new assignment as a result of his intimate knowledge of the overseas fields and frequent travels throughout the world on his lecture tours.
A native of Pontiac, Illinois, Mr. Watt is a graduate of Illinois Institute of Technology. As a civil engineer, he worked on a project in the Soviet Union in 1929. He had become interested in Christian Science at an early age through his mother and an aunt, who was one of the pioneer Christian Science workers in the Philippine Islands. He joined The Mother Church in 1930, received Primary class instruction in 1932, and has devoted full time to the public practice of Christian Science healing and service to The Mother Church since 1942. During World War II, Mr. Watt served as a Chaplain in the United States Army, attaining the rank of major. He and Mrs. Watt were active in the reestablishment of Christian Science activities in Japan, including the organization of Christian Science Society, Tokyo.
In 1948 Mr. Watt was appointed Manager, Washington, District of Columbia, Office, Christian Science Committee on Publication. He continued in this post until appointed to the Board of Lectureship. He is a member of Third Church of Christ, Scientist, Washington, and has served in branch churches as First Reader and in other capacities.
