Unchangeable Mind

From the October 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Dear to the heart of the Christian is God's unchangeableness. We read in the Bible, "He is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth."Job 23:13; For centuries men had this wonderful Biblical concept that God is immutable. Yet the resources inherent in this concept lay mainly untapped and even unsuspected because of the conviction, still generally persisting today, that men have separate minds of their own, susceptible to chance and change.

With meekness and courage Jesus of Nazareth rebuked this dualism and proclaimed the great truth that God is the only Mind of man. Jesus demonstrated the grandeur and joy of man, who reflects God, Mind. The Master claimed no father, mother, or mind separate from God. Thus he gave to the apparently abstract concept of God's changelessness the dynamic vitality of scientific proof, healing and redeeming men on the basis of man's unity with the one divine Mind. Hence Paul's admonition, "Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus."Phil. 2:5;

Christian Science throws new light on the Bible. This Science teaches that the First Commandment, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me,"Ex. 20:3; must be taken in a practical, literal sense, as Jesus clearly took it. Mrs. Eddy bids men have no other Mind but God, divine Mind, and thus overcome any desire to believe in minds many.
