Christian Science was presented to me...

From the June 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Christian Science was presented to me at a time of great financial and physical need. I had a deep basic faith in God, and so I could accept wholeheartedly all that Christian Science stood for. I suffered from a very painful condition of my feet and had Christian Science treatment for six months. At this time I had a great sense of responsibility for my mother, two half sisters, their husbands and children, whom my husband and I had to help support. The practitioner kept urging me to let them go and know that God cares for His own creation. I felt this was cruel and could not do it.

One Sunday morning my feet were so painful that I could not put my shoes on to go to church. I suddenly realized that I was suffering from a sense of resentment and burden, and said audibly, "God, if these are Your children and You created them, please take them and look after them, because I cannot." Instantly every vestige of pain left my feet, and in a very short time all the corns, bunions, and carbuncles vanished. That was about forty years ago, and I have enjoyed complete freedom in this respect ever since.

God's law of adjustment then came into operation, and each member of my family found his rightful place and supply. During that period my husband was unemployed for twelve months, and I was beset by fearful, anxious thoughts. The hymns from the Christian Science Hymnal were a source of strength and courage. I used to sing them at the top of my voice to shut out the fear and torment and to keep my faith bright and clear. With the help of the practitioner we went through that period without getting into debt; neither did we receive charity in a material sense from anyone. The promise in Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy (p. 494), "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need," was proved daily, while my husband and I gave service wherever there was opportunity.
