When Christian Science found me, I was...

From the June 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When Christian Science found me, I was in an unhappy condition. I was just out of a hospital where I had been taking treatments for a severe case of eczema. I had been taking seven kinds of drugs every day, including sleeping tablets, which I had been taking for six years. The doctors said they could do no more for me.

Then a nervous condition developed, and I felt I was about to lose my mind. I was not afraid of death but of life, and I had lost all interest in it. There was the continual thought of suicide as the only escape.

Just why I decided to take up Christian Science, I am not sure, as I knew nothing about it. My brother-in-law called a practitioner for me, who came that evening and talked with me. He told me that if I decided to go on with Science I should get the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and read it. Then if I wished to call him, he would begin treatments. This I did. I burned the medicine and the sleeping tablets, though I was tempted to keep them, not for sleeping, but for a way out.
