Are We Taking the Human Footsteps?

From the November 1968 issue of The Christian Science Journal

We often wonder why a right need for harmonious relationships, occupation, supply, or health is not being met. Perhaps a friend trying to be helpful may ask, "Have you taken the human footsteps?" We may think we have, but do we understand fully what the human footsteps are and where they are to be taken?

In the textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health, Mrs. Eddy gives us clear guidance on this point. In the chapter entitled "Footsteps of Truth" she writes, "The divine demand, 'Be ye therefore perfect,' is scientific, and the human footsteps leading to perfection are indispensable."Science and Health, pp. 253, 254;

How encouraging it is to know that perfection is a divine demand and that therefore our yearning for it to be realized in our experience is supported by divine power! Spiritually understood, perfection already characterizes God's entire creation, including man. Christ Jesus' ability to prove his clear knowledge of the spiritual fact of man's perfection enabled him to make this demand of us: "Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect."Matt. 5: 48;
