"'Consciousness, where art thou?'"

A flood of confused thoughts and opinions is surging throughout the world, seeking entrance to the thinking of mankind through many propaganda media. Although every good and constructive thought that is expressed is purifying and strengthening, nevertheless tendencies toward sensualism and materialism seem often to prevail.

Under the marginal heading "The great question," Mrs. Eddy writes in Science and Health: "Above error's awful din, blackness, and chaos, the voice of Truth still calls: 'Adam, where art thou? Consciousness, where art thou? Art thou dwelling in the belief that mind is in matter, and that evil is mind, or art thou in the living faith that there is and can be but one God, and keeping His commandment?' Until the lesson is learned that God is the only Mind governing man, mortal belief will be afraid as it was in the beginning, and will hide from the demand, 'Where art thou?'" Science and Health, pp. 307, 308;

This call of Truth, "'Consciousness, where art thou?'" rouses and challenges one to self examination. Paul appealed to the church in Thessalonica in the same vein when he wrote: "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil."I Thess. 5: 21, 22;
