Shortly after my mother became interested in Christian Science some fifty years ago, she enrolled me in the Sunday School. I also saw how Christian Science was loved and lived in the home of dear friends, which contributed much to the molding of my character. And for the foundation of spiritual teaching received in the Sunday School, I could never express sufficient gratitude. Membership in The Mother Church and a branch church and class instruction in Christian Science have been precious experiences, bringing much joy, spiritual growth, and progress.
Christian Science has not only brought peace of mind and the healing of bodily ailments but, more importantly, it has taught me how to evangelize the human selfhood and so destroy the sins of self-will, self-love, impatience, pride, criticism, and so on. This purifying of thought takes place in the realization of man's oneness, or unity, with God, Spirit, and in the conscious effort to deny and cast out all un-godlike thoughts. Thus the beliefs of corporeal selfhood are gradually replaced with spiritual truth.
This is shown in the following instances in my experience. When a sense of resentment and irritation about a seeming injustice was replaced with love and forgiveness, a skin infection on both hands disappeared. At another time, when extreme, critical thoughts of others were cast out, a painful condition in one arm, which I was unable to raise, was healed.
