The earth was made to be inhabited;
Yet, with populace exploding much,
multitudes are hungry, lack the touch
of human kindness—innocents in want,
despairing and unloved, face the gaunt
specter of lack. We can challenge this,
but only one can reach them with the bliss
of plenitude in everything—the tryst
kept by rich compassion of the Christ
that spake by Jesus in a desert place,
and speaks again to every creed and race:
"They need not depart; give ye them to eat."
As we obey this call, we too must meet
each mortal protest and the blinded eye
that leaves the nations to futility,
that sees supply as gratifying gain
or vague ideal that no one can attain.
Meet human dreams of lack with "greater works
than these"—outreaching of that Christly grace
to millions of new neighbors face to face.
