Class Instruction: A Right Idea

From the June 1968 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Every sincere student of Christian Science at some point in his journey Spiritward gives serious thought to class instruction. Mindful of the provision in the Manual of The Mother Church by Mary Baker Eddy for class instruction through authorized teachers of Christian Science, the student recognizes this activity to be a right idea and therefore a normal step in progress.

One who has awakened to the rightness of this experience for himself may rest assured that his wish to have class instruction is blessed by divine Love. Mrs. Eddy, who discovered and founded Christian Science, tells us in Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, "Desire is prayer; and no loss can occur from trusting God with our desires, that they may be moulded and exalted before they take form in words and in deeds." Science and Health, p.1;

Though one may acknowledge the importance of this advanced study, he may contemplate it for many years before he feels he is ready to make application to a teacher. Mortal mind, that infamous conspirator against all that is good, would entrap one into postponing or forgoing this spiritual adventure. Stagnation, not progress, is an element of this supposititious mind. Error would try to prevent us from seeing beyond or above our present state and aspiring to something higher. Error would prolong the status quo.
