Christian Science came to our family twenty years ago at a time when our need to find God was extreme. At the birth of our second son the attending physician informed us of a grave problem of improper digestion. Many dedicated physicians came to our aid. One remedy after another was tried, and all who knew of the child's condition were in agreement that this was a most unusual case.
The child remained unimproved. One day the doctor, handing us a prescription, stated that the medication, though extremely potent, was very new and he frankly didn't know what the outcome would be, as experiments with it had been only partially successful. The child was now eighteen months old and so weak from lack of nourishment that he was unable to hold up his tiny head. As my husband and I walked out of that doctor's office, I turned to my husband and asked if he would consider Christian Science treatment. I'd heard from a friend that Christian Science would heal all mankind's infirmities. My husband willingly consented.
The next day, ready with a long list of pertinent questions, I went to a Christian Science practitioner's office. Although I went there to find healing for our child, many of my questions were concerning God. I believe the most important one was, "Can I love God?"
