The Sweet and the Bitter

From the February 1970 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In the book of Revelation it is recorded that a mighty angel came down from heaven, "And he had in his hand a little book open."Rev. 10:2; The account by the Revelator continues: "And I went unto the angel, and said unto him, Give me the little book. And he said unto me, Take it, and eat it up; and it shall make thy belly bitter, but it shall be in thy mouth sweet as honey."

In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, the Christian Science textbook, Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, comments on the little book in the chapter entitled, "The Apocalypse." She writes: "Take divine Science. Read this book from beginning to end. Study it, ponder it. It will be indeed sweet at its first taste, when it heals you; but murmur not over Truth, if you find its digestion bitter."Science and Health, p. 559;

When one first becomes acquainted with the teachings of Christian Science and catches the first glimpse of the truth of being, namely that God has made man perfect, in His image and likeness, he may yield to this wonderfully reassuring truth without a struggle. False beliefs drop away like barnacles from a seagoing ship suddenly plunged into fresh water. Healings are often accomplished with ease.
