From the March 1970 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I wish to give grateful thanks for the many wonderful blessings that Christian Science has brought into my life. When I was eight years of age, my father became interested in Christian Science through attending a Christian Science Sunday service and then reading the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy. He joined the church and had class instruction. Later he became a Christian Science practitioner. In this way I met a pioneer teacher and practitioner, who helped to lay the foundation of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Manchester, England. I shall always remember her kindness and generosity toward me and others.

My first healing as a boy of eight years was a moral healing. It seemed a mighty struggle to overcome. I have since been convinced that nothing on earth but Christian Science could have given me such a mental purgation or could have loosed the chains of sensualism.

I attended the Christian Science Sunday School for short periods in my school holidays and was helped to correct faults of character. For a period I resisted complete acceptance of Science.
