I am glad my mother introduced me to Christian Science at a tender age. Having known no other religion and recognizing the omnipotence of Truth in meeting all human needs, I am most grateful for God's gracious gift to mankind.
This remarkable discovery of the lost element of healing by Mrs. Eddy made its first real impression on me when, as a young man, I was working for an oil company in a small town. One of my duties as a laborer was to lift heavy piping onto a truck. While doing this work on a hot midsummer day, I became ill from fatigue and heatstroke. When I arrived at my home that evening, I was too exhausted to rest comfortably and sat in a rocking chair most of the night. My brother, who had recently begun the earnest study of Science, recommended that a Christian Science practitioner be called. My brother and I had been taught in a Christian Science Sunday School. We had accepted the basic truths of Christian Science to the extent that the need for drugs or medicine for prophylactic or therapeutic purposes was never considered. About twenty minutes after the call for aid was placed, I was asleep and slept restfully the remainder of the night. On waking the next morning I was completely well and was so impressed by this wonderful healing that I wanted to shout it to the whole world.
Since that time other beautiful healings have occurred, and I have known many instances of God's guidance, provision, and protection. One of these was the provision of a complete college education when no funds were available. Another was the protection received during my training and overseas activities in the armed service during World War II. Others include the healings of virus infections, colds, embarrassments, loss, and many more.
