Since taking up the study of Christian Science...

From the July 1970 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Since taking up the study of Christian Science I have received more blessings than I can enumerate here. From the beginning I had no preconceived idea of Christian Science, and took up the study with a receptive thought. Since it was Science, it had to be studied and put into practice.

I want to speak of one healing in particular. One day, two winters ago, I began to suffer with pain in my legs. The next day, a Sunday, my limbs were as if paralyzed. In order not to give in to error, I got up, but with great difficulty. I was unable to attend the church service, and my wife asked for treatment for me from a woman who is a practitioner listed in The Christian Science Journal. To heal this problem in Christian Science, I began to study with the aid of the Concordances to the Bible and the writings of Mary Baker Eddy. On Monday there was no improvement in the condition. I was compelled to extend this confinement, and in order to comply with Social Security regulations and those of the firm where I work, I was required to send for a doctor to see me.

I was away from business just one week. I went back to work on the eighth day. I was still suffering and could walk only slowly. The management was very understanding and allowed me to leave work early each day. At the time of the first visit to the practitioner I was having such a hard time walking that I had to take a taxi for the last seven hundred feet. The practitioner gave me some work to do in Christian Science—passages to study from the Bible and from the textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mrs. Eddy. One passage in particular attracted my attention. It is from page 283: "Mind is the source of all movement, and there is no inertia to retard or check its perpetual and harmonious action."
