The study of Christian Science is a thrilling, exciting, and rousing experience! A similar statement was made by a Christian Science practitioner, who helped me receive a healing. I had studied Christian Science but through tangled circumstances had turned to medical doctors for treatment. I became suddenly ill and could not care for myself or my family. My husband is not a Christian Scientist, and we decided I should see a medical doctor. The illness was diagnosed as a rare, incurable disease called lupus erythematosus. At this same time, through X rays, they found I had stones in both kidneys.
I continued to be in ill health and periodically had trouble with my kidneys. After four years the doctors said that there was nothing further they would be able to do for me. As Job said (3:25), "The thing which I greatly feared is come upon me." I knew my only hope was to call a Christian Science practitioner. I was divinely led to telephone one who is also a Christian Science teacher. I told him I was suffering from a kidney stone. Under Christian Science treatment, by early evening the stone had passed. When I reported the healing to the practitioner, he said, "This is evidence of Immanuel, or 'God with us.'" But I still told him nothing of the chronic disease or that I had been taking medicine for it.
Later, because of a problem in our family, I started visiting the practitioner to help clear the confusion in our home. After several visits I told him about my problem of the illness I had not mentioned to him before. He suggested we work this out together. I told him I hoped he would bear with me, because I felt like a small child. He said this was necessary. He told me to stop taking the medicine immediately. I did, and without any ill effects. I had tried several times in the five years I had been under medical treatment to do just this, but even when decreasing gradually, I suffered a reaction and much pain. Through the prayers of the practitioner I was able to stop immediately. It was as though I had never taken any medicine.
