Christian Science Is Success-oriented

From the February 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

No matter what we are doing or thinking about doing, our aim should surely be success. It would be downright foolhardy and self-limiting to tackle any worthy undertaking with miserable failure in mind. To be sure of success in gaining lofty and right goals in any aspect of life, we must take care to raise our results on a solid foundation.

Many people think and act as if Edison's saying that "genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration" applies equally to success. This, of course, greatly overstates the role of mere human endeavor. While right human desires, human education and experience, human strengths and skills, certainly have their place in striving toward proper objectives, the highest and most reliable support and source of accomplishment can be nothing short of an understanding of the spiritual truth of being.

All true success is a manifestation of God, for success is one of His attributes. God establishes the very peak of success throughout His creation. He makes all that is made, and He makes all perfect. Our endeavor, then, should not be dominated by any overriding desire for personal success based on personal ability and effort, which are limited. We should strive to become increasingly aware that God's work is already perfect and bring our human activity into line with this spiritually scientific fact.
