The Librarian's Role

From the February 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

He stood there for some time, intently reading from the books open in the window of a Christian Science Reading Room. He was dressed in work clothes. It was noontime, and he ate a sandwich as he stood there and read.

The librarian inside the Reading Room noticed the workman at the window. As she went about her duties, she prayerfully acknowledged the outreach of divine Love, which she knew included all. Suddenly the workman tossed his crumpled sandwich bag into a receptacle, pushed open the Reading Room door, and strode in.

He addressed the librarian in a loud voice. His attitude was aggressive, even belligerent, and his comments revealed a mistaken concept of Christian Science. The surprised librarian, discerning the stranger's need for correct information, silently prayed that the presence of the Christ, Truth, might be made plain to them both.
