Since the beginning of mortal history men and nations have feared invasion by enemies from without. In our more enlightened age fear often seeks to invade our thought from within by a more subtle approach, suggesting many types of contagious diseases, predicting epidemics, and so on through television, radio, and the press. Through the broadcasting of these suggestions with monotonous regularity, mesmeric fear makes vigorous attempts to break down our resistance.
"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear."I John 4:18; These inspired words of John carry the same authority and conviction today as when first written centuries ago. They have brought many both healing and release from fear in its myriad forms.
Mrs. Eddy gives us this unfailing, dependable antidote for fear in an article entitled "Contagion," in Miscellaneous Writings: "A calm, Christian state of mind is a better preventive of contagion than a drug, or than any other possible sanative method; and the 'perfect Love' that 'casteth out fear' is a sure defense."Mis., p. 229;
