Divine Creation

From the August 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The wisdom of ages found in the inspired teachings of the Bible reveals the fact that God exists as the one divine creator, the Father of His own spiritual and perfect universe. The theology of Christian Science affirms and illumines Bible declarations showing that God is omnipotent and all acting. From this premise it follows that the power and activity of creation belong to God.

God expresses Himself in His creation. The nature of the cause is always reflected in its effect. Therefore what emanates from God is Godlike. This conclusion indicates the true status of man. Because of God's ever-presence and eternality His creation is present and eternal, now and forever God's likeness. "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them."Gen. 1:27; This basic fact has helped many individuals demonstrate that harmony is the present state of man's being.

Divine creation appears as spiritual unfoldment. It is Mind's multiplication of its own ideas. The Biblical injunction that man "be fruitful, and multiply"v. 28; has been more or less accepted canonically with reference only to the reproduction of material offspring. Actually, the spiritual import of this chapter of Genesis presents a very different statement of creation, one that is satisfying and healing. It should be noted that it does not make provision for re-creation. God is found to be the sole creator and His work complete.
