PRAY DEEP!

From the August 1971 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Pray deep, pray deep
For all who sleep,
Dreaming the dream
Of evil days that seem—
Yet never are!

Prayer deep as Truth can wake
Each dreamer, break
His dark fantasy of woe.
And lo,
Open his eyes to the sun.
The darkness done,
The night afar.

Pray deep, more deep
Than mortal sleep!
The troubled world
In dark hypnotic sleep lies curled,
Knowing no cure
For the ills that endure
Through the long nightmare night.

Pray deep as Love—
For only Love can move
The shrouding veils
That error trails
Between the dreamer and the light.

Pray deep, pray deep!
The world's long sleep,
From which Love called us awake,
For all will break.
Love's dawn will sing,
To each its lark song bring,
As we, the awakened, pray
For God's new day
From the heart's deep power
In this and every hour.

For what did the Master say?—
"Watch and pray"!
Prayer is the watch we keep.
Pray deep, pray deep!
