Dealing with Mob Violence

From the October 1972 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For centuries boys and mobs have expressed their feelings by throwing stones. Young boys will spend hours throwing rocks for fun, and a mob out of control will throw anything it can get its hands on.

In the last few years nearly every country around the globe has reported stonings and other mob violence. With conditions as they are, anyone could find his property threatened or himself involved with a crowd in a sudden violent mood.

Is prayer of any value to one unexpectedly caught up in violence? Prayer is always a help. The Bible states, "The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:16; Prayer is effective when it comes from a heart that trusts completely in God as the only power and accepts God's will in place of human wrong or unwise desires. One praying in this manner finds that God directs, protects, and sustains.
