How old are we? The natural reaction is to think of our birthday. But is this our beginning? Was there a time when God had no children? Was man brought forth at a certain stage of history like a manufactured product with built-in obsolescence?
Our true beginning is not a point in time. Referring to the first verse in the Bible, "In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth," Gen. 1:1; Mrs. Eddy comments, "This word beginning is employed to signify the only,—that is, the eternal verity and unity of God and man, including the universe." The textbook of Christian Science, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, contains many terms for the spiritual, true man: God's likeness, reflection, emanation, manifestation, idea, and so forth. Such concepts have no time connotation. Rather, they present man as an eternal expression of divine Mind.
