In the search for a rational, comprehensive, pure religion for my two small boys, I found Christian Science. Before this happened, I took them to many Sunday Schools in a large city where we resided. But as I talked to the boys about their class sessions, I was aware that what I was seeking was not being presented in these churches.
A next door neighbor knew of my critical survey and that I had become discouraged with the results. She invited me to bring the boys to the Sunday School of the church she attended—a Church of Christ, Scientist. I was surprised that the Christian Science church had a Sunday School, for all I knew or had heard about Christian Science were to me at that time incredible tales of fabulous healings. She assured me that I would find that the students in a Christian Science Sunday School were carefully taught the Scriptures and how to make practical use of the absolute truths presented to them.
After attending one session my sons were interested and anxious to return the following Sunday. After making a cursory examination of the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, I concluded that it made sense. Every Sunday I took the boys to Sunday School, where they were finding each session a spiritual adventure, and I sat through each Sunday church service well satisfied that I had found the very best for my boys. I was gratified when they told me what they were learning in class, I supported the teachers in seeing that they were obedient in preparing their assignments for the following week, and I observed the eminently good changes in their attitudes and behavior. The older boy, who had been fearful of the dark and of unexpected situations, became fearless and completely confident of his well-being under the care of divine Love. Both boys were daily making use of what they were learning.
