The Board of Trustees of The Christian Science Publishing Society announces that with the approval of The Christian Science Board of Directors they have elected Glenn A. Evans, C.S., of Wilmette, Illinois, as a Trustee of the Publishing Society effective April 1, 1972. Mr. Evans will succeed Howard Palfrey Jones, who at his request is retiring to his home in Atherton, California, to devote full time to writing. Mr. Jones will continue to be available to the Publishing Society to provide counsel as needed. Mr. Jones has served as a Trustee since October, 1969. He was formerly United States Ambassador to Indonesia, chancellor of the East-West Center, Honolulu, and professor of journalism at the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.
Mr. Evans was educated at Miami University and Wittenberg University in Ohio, Indiana University, and Johns Hopkins University in the fields of industrial engineering and industrial management. He spent sixteen years with the Martin-Marietta Company in various executive positions including factory manager. Following that, he was with the Whirlpool Corporation for sixteen years as director, group vice-president and chief executive of Warwick Electronics, which position he left to enter the full-time public practice of Christian Science in Chicago.
Mr. Evans has been active in branch church work in Baltimore, Maryland; Marion, Ohio; Benton Harbor, Michigan; and Winnetka, Illinois. He has served as First Reader, chairman of the board, superintendent of the Sunday School, and in other capacities. He has been a member of The Mother Church since 1935, and received class instruction in 1937.
