My testimony of healing for the Christian Science periodicals is long overdue. I was raised in a Christian Science home, attended the Sunday School until I was twenty, and witnessed many wonderful healing experiences during those years.
However, there was a period later when I did not adhere to the teachings of Christian Science—smoking, drinking socially, and going to a doctor when I felt I needed one. Then came the time when I began to be in great need, bordering on a nervous breakdown. I could hardly live with myself. Finally, my husband took me to a well-known diagnostician, who gave me a thorough physical examination. After all the tests the doctor stated that I was physically perfect; however, he did say, "If you don't straighten up mentally, you will need a psychologist." This was enough for me. As we left his office, a still small voice said, "You need what you already know— Christian Science." I can remember that it was like turning on a light.
I had the help of several Christian Science practitioners at different intervals. The healing did not come quickly. It was a day-by-day and hour-by-hour affirmation of my spiritual and mental freedom as an idea of God, and denial of the aggressive suggestions of fear of being alone, anxieties, and sleeplessness. My only desire was to gain a deeper understanding of God, and of man's relationship to Him.
