There was an added element to preparing for this Christian Science lecture: the opportunity to exhibit genuine brotherhood.
The Florida church sponsoring the lecture was in the white community—as were the other three branch churches in the metropolitan area that agreed to participate jointly in the lecture preparations.
But the lecture itself was presented in the city's black community, to residents largely unfamiliar with Christian Science. So one task was to anticipate well in advance otherwise inevitable questions from the residents: What's Christian Science? What's your purpose here? Why should we attend a lecture?
