Give or Take

From the November 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The true motive in Christian Science is to give: to give joy, to give love, to give of oneself where needed. And each joy or kindness one gives blesses and enriches him.

Reaching out in tenderness and compassion to help another, forgiving slights, knowing the presence of divine power to rule out animosity—all these stem from the divine Love that Jesus evidenced throughout his ministry of healing, teaching, and regenerating. Daily, hourly, he communed with God on the close basis of Father and Son.

One's daily, quiet communion with God establishes one's conscious unity with Him and one's ability to give. Getting to know God better through this communion assures one of His patience and tender care for himself and all. If one wishes to be more loving and useful to others, he can claim the qualities of God as his own. This need not be a laborious process, for, in his actual, spiritual identity as the reflection of God, as God's image and likeness, he already has all the divine qualities.
