The blessings which have come to me and my family through the study of Christian Science are so many that I must enumerate some, lest I be guilty of the ingratitude of the nine lepers who were healed by Jesus but failed to acknowledge their healings.
One summer day I played twenty-nine strenuous games of tennis, jumped on a trampoline for the first time, and felt no ill effects whatever. Considering that I am a grandmother, I was extremely grateful to be able to think back on a vigorous and productive life. Especially since over twenty years ago a prominent orthopedic surgeon testified in court that I would never lead an active life again! His prophecy, based on medical law, never came true, since it did not have the reality of divine Principle, Love, whose law I am learning to accept as the only law which truly governs man. (The testimony of healing through Christian Science in this case was recorded in a Christian Science Sentinel in April, 1953.)
In addition to the above-mentioned healing, resulting from an automobile accident, I had a healing of a badly broken foot in 1961 . One night I was knocked down from behind by a large playful dog. I heard a loud snap as I went down, and the result was a greatly swollen foot and ankle. Members of my family who were present immediately supported me by declaring statements of truth. I looked at the stars as I lay on the grass, recognizing their hint of God's true, secure creation, gratefully declaring that nothing can be out of place in man's experience. Although I was in much pain that night, I felt a great sense of calm and the presence of divine Love, God, which enabled me to know with certainty that the healing was taking place. During the night I felt some adjustments in my foot. I was so joyful and confident that I thought I could get up and not only walk but leap. This did not prove to be the case immediately; but I was free from fear, and I knew with gratitude that I could rely on spiritual means alone for healing, without a physical diagnosis or X ray.
