Concordance Research

From the September 1974 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Progress in demonstrating the truths of Christian Science is inevitable if we follow our Leader, Mary Baker Eddy. And we follow her as we study to understand the spirit as well as the letter of her revelation. For this purpose the Concordances to her writings are invaluable.

When we begin the study of Christian Science, there are certain facts that quickly become evident to us: the allness of God, His incorporeal, ever-present, powerful, loving nature; man's existence as His perfect reflection; the healing action of the Christ manifesting God's nature; the unreality of evil; the nothingness of matter; and so on. We learn to pray through purified desires, silently obeying Christ Jesus' teaching, "When thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly." Matt. 6:6; We learn to reject as unreal all that fails to represent man as the image or idea of divine Principle, Mind, Soul, Spirit, Truth, Life, Love— synonyms for God. And as we practice what we learn, we find healings occurring as a result.

As we progress, many questions arise that can be rightly or wrongly answered. The difference determines our continued progress or lack of it. For example, How much attention should we give to sin? Since it is unreal, should we refuse to mention it, or do we need to do something about it?
